A Tale of Two Bunnies

I've been worried sick about Loretta since last Thursday. She hasn't been eating as well as she usually does. Also she has been somewhat aggressive.

On Saturday I took her out of the cage to trim her nails. At one point, I flipped her over and saw the biggest tumor I have ever seen! It was the size of a kiwi fruit. The fur was knotted and the entire area appeared to be very sore and swollen.

I clipped the knots that I could remove without cutting her skin and then I made an appointment at the vet. I thought about getting in for an emergency appointment, but there is no doctor in the office on the weekend at my vet and I would have had to travel to a different town to have her seen. Steve reminded me that she was still drinking and eating a little and that she was alert and not listless. He felt that she would be okay until today's appointment.

My usual bunny vet office made an appointment for us tonight. I had Steve rush home so I could change my clothes and get her there as quickly as possible. Ryan and Rianne came with me to help with whatever needed to be done. We knew that he would at least have to clip or shave the area to get a better look at the tumor.

We waited for an eternity as they had an emergency and it backed up the appointments. I was afraid to take Loretta out of the carrier so I had the doctor do it.

We all stood around the examination table as her took her out of the carrier and flipped her over with the help of his assistant. He confirmed that she has a tumor. In fact, he told me, she has two of them.

He said they are also sometimes referred to as testicles.

Loretta is now called George. As in Boy George.
